North Metro Poker League: Event #1 Results: $40 Freezeout [January 28th]

Event #1 Results: $40 Freezeout [January 28th]

The first ever North Metro Poker tournament didn't feature as big of a field as we would have hoped, but there was still some memorable moments and great hands.

As it got down to the final four players, the money bubble took forever to burst. The majority of the time, Corey was the short stack, but he kept grinding his way up to second place in chips before finally being eliminated in 4th. With being the bubble boy, Corey is awarded free entry into the next tournament.

The final hand of the night between Todd Kampa and Steve Schiminski finally occurred after an epic 3 hour heads-up showdown in which each player ended up doubling up several times through the other.

Todd went all in pre-flop with 78 and Steve called the all-in with KJ. Todd flopped an open ended straight draw, while Steve flopped top pair with the flop reading K56. The turn was the A giving Steve a chance to double-up through Todd, but still needing to fade 6 outs on the river. Unfortunately for Steve, the river card was the 9 giving Todd the straight for the winning hand and giving Todd the honor of being North Metro Poker's first-ever monthly tournament champion.

With 10 entries, Todd took home $191 as top prize. The next tournament is scheduled for February 11th at 2:00 pm.
